God's Plan of Salvation

Why must I be saved?

Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." - God has revealed to us in the Bible that we have fallen short of His glory. Because of our sin there is a great gap between God and us. It is a gulf which we can do nothing for ourselves to cross. Sin has ruined us and the world around us. Because of the curse of sin, this world, even in the physical state, is getting worse and worse. Our lives and our spirits have been destroyed by sin, and there is nothing that we can do about it.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death,..." - Not only shall we one day die physically because of sin, but we are already dead spiritually. Because of our sin nature, our spirit is naturally dead, and we cannot know God. If we were to physically die while being spiritually dead, we shall be eternally lost without hope.

But there is hope!

While there is nothing that we can do about our condition, there is something that God has already done. Let us complete Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." God has provided the gift of eternal life! We no longer have to be spiritually dead!
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - This gift of life has been provided through the sacrifice of God's Son, Jesus Christ. The perfect Son of God laid down his life on the cross of Calvary that we might live. He took our sins upon Himself so that His righteousness can be placed upon us. By His death, burial, and resurrection, He has provided a way that our spirits might be born again! We no longer have to live in death, but through Christ living in us, we can breathe the breath of eternal life!

What must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31 "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." - A jailor in the Bible once asked this same question, and the answer received is recorded in this verse. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved!
Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." - To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ is not simply some words that our spoken. It is not even a knowledge that is simply learned in the mind. To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, it must come from the heart. That is to say that there must be a faith that comes from within the depths of our soul, where we believe and trust in Christ and Christ alone to save us from sin. The faith required for salvation can only be given by God.
Romans 10:17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." - If you will realize your need of salvation and if you will heed to the calling and conviction of the Holy Spirit, God will, through His Word, supply your heart with a faith that you cannot produce on your own. I encourage you to listen in your heart for the bidding of God, and act upon His moving by calling upon the Lord to save you!

A work in progress!

II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." - Once we are saved, the work of salvation is complete in our hearts. We can have assurance that we have been granted eternal life. Though salvation's work is complete, the work God wants to do in and through us has just begun. We are a new creature, a new creation in Christ Jesus. A surrender to the conviction of the Holy Spirit will demand a repentance from our sins. We will be heart broken over all that we have done against God, and there will be a desire to turn away from that which God has called sin. At the same time, our old nature will want to revive itself, and there will be a struggle within to turn back to our old ways. As we grow in Christ, we will learn to let Christ and His Spirit prevail in our hearts and lives. Our part will be to learn to surrender ourselves daily to Him and His working.
